Ansar Gallery expands ‘Free Food Stands’

The Ansar Gallery has expanded its ‘Free Food Stands’ programme to two more branches in Doha, offering free food to needy people, with support from philanthropists. Apart from generous donations from the group, affluent residents are also providing food items.
“We place food stuff worth QR500 at each free-food-stand placed at Ansar Gallery grocery stores as per the directions of our chairman. By evening, when the items start ending, citizens who shop from Ansar Gallery grocery store start refilling the empty shelves with food items,” Shamsheer Paryat, Marketing Manager at Ansar Gallery Group told The Peninsula.
Paryat says that food available at free-stands include hhubos, noodles, yogurt, water, laban and bread. “The message ‘Free food only for those who have no money to buy food or unemployed’ is clearly written in five languages to make it clear to anyone who is in need of food,” he added.
He said the tradition had started from Dubai branch and eventually came to Doha. “It is a successful initiative by Ansar Group. The only restriction is that one person can take only one piece at a time,” he said.
He further said that Free Food Stands were installed at three branches of Ansar Gallery grocery stores, including Barwa branch, Old Airport branch and Al- Khor branch.
Muhammad Rehmat Ullah who was availing the free food offer at the Old Airport branch, said: “I never go disappointed from here and there are days when I don’t earn enough money to be able to feed myself one time in a day, I come here and grab khoobos and yogurt.”
